These physiques are rarely natural, and a lot of professional bodybuilders including IBFF pro’s will take enhancements.

Anabolic steroids, often referred to as anabolic-androgenic steroids, are synthetic derivatives of the male sex hormone testosterone. They are designed to enhance specific physiological functions, particularly muscle growth and physical strength.

When athletes or bodybuilders consume these substances, they are primarily seeking the anabolic effects—muscle mass increase and enhanced performance. Testosterone itself is responsible for two major impacts on the body:

  1. Muscle Development: Testosterone promotes protein synthesis, which is crucial for muscle growth and recovery. Higher levels of this hormone can lead to an increase in muscle size and strength.

  2. Androgenic Effects: Aside from muscle development, testosterone also brings about secondary sexual characteristics, such as increased body hair and a deeper voice. The androgenic properties can lead to various effects that may be undesirable or harmful, particularly in those using steroids without medical supervision.

However, the use of anabolic steroids carries significant health risks. Potential side effects can include liver damage, cardiovascular issues, hormonal imbalances, and psychological effects such as aggression and mood swings. Furthermore, long-term use can lead to dependency and withdrawal symptoms.

Always take what you see online with a pinch of salt, an experienced coach will be able to tell you if your body goals is achievable for you, and what you would need to do in order to get there.
